About the Patent
Our UK Patent GB2615993B protects our innovative filter sanitisation technology, preventing build up of pathogens on the filter surface. This breakthrough in UV-C air purification enables continuous operation and maintains optimal effectiveness. The patented system is currently implemented in our CT600 Ceiling Tile and MT500/750 Mobile units.
The technology addresses a critical challenge in air purification: filter contamination. Traditional systems allow pathogens to accumulate on filter surfaces, potentially reducing effectiveness and creating maintenance requirements. Our patented solution continuously sanitises the filter surface, killing captured pathogens while physical debris still accumulates. Backward curved centrifugal fans maintain performance despite gradual buildup, extending filter life to 6-12 months depending on environment.
Innovation
Filter sanitisation technology prevents pathogen build up on filter surfaces, maintaining optimal air purification effectiveness and reducing maintenance requirements.
Extended Filter Life
UV-C sanitisation prevents biological contamination while backward curved fans maintain performance despite gradual debris accumulation. Filters last 6-12 months depending on environment, significantly reducing operational costs.
Low Maintenance
Designed for healthcare environments where service interruptions must be minimized. The automated system operates continuously without manual intervention.
Competitive Advantage
UK patent protection ensures our technology leadership in automated filter cleaning for UV-C air purification systems, differentiating Midtherm UV from competitors.
Real-World Validation

How the Technology Works
The Core Innovation: Self-Cleaning Filters
Traditional air purifiers face a critical problem: as filters capture pathogens from the air, these harmful microorganisms accumulate on the filter surface. Over time, this build-up reduces effectiveness and requires frequent, costly filter replacements.
Our patented technology solves this through an innovative airflow design. Air enters between the UV-C reactor (which has windows) and the filter, then passes through the F7 filter where particles are captured. The air continues through the fan and into the UV-C reactor chamber where pathogens are destroyed before clean air returns to the room. Crucially, the reactor's windows allow UV-C light to continuously bathe the dirty side of the filter, preventing biological contamination. This single-reactor, dual-function design extends filter life to 6-12 months depending on environment (compared to monthly replacements in traditional systems).
Step 1: F7 Filtration with UV-C Sanitization
Air enters and passes through the F7 filter, capturing particles, bacteria, viruses, and allergens. The UV-C reactor's windows continuously bathe the dirty side of the filter with germicidal light, preventing pathogen buildup.
Step 2: UV-C Reactor Chamber
Filtered air passes through the fan and enters the UV-C reactor chamber, where germicidal light destroys the DNA/RNA of any remaining airborne pathogens at the molecular level.
Step 3: Clean Air Output
Purified air exits the reactor and returns to the room. Backward curved centrifugal fans maintain airflow performance even as physical debris gradually accumulates on the filter.
Why This Matters
- •6-12 month filter life instead of monthly replacements — UV-C sanitises the filter surface while physical debris accumulates gradually
- •Backward curved centrifugal fans maintain airflow performance despite gradual debris buildup on the filter
- •Reduced service frequency — filters still require eventual replacement, but at 6-12 month intervals instead of monthly
- •No pathogen re-release — captured pathogens are neutralised by UV-C, not just trapped
Products Featuring Patented Technology
Technical Advantages
Continuous Operation
The automated cleaning system operates continuously during normal air purification cycles, ensuring filters remain effective without service interruptions.
Cost Reduction
12-month filter life significantly reduces replacement costs and maintenance labor compared to traditional HEPA systems requiring monthly or quarterly filter changes.
Healthcare-Optimized
Designed specifically for healthcare environments where air quality cannot be compromised and maintenance windows are limited. The system ensures consistent performance in occupied patient areas.
